Alumni Report 06/07
Have past projects taken the next step in creating a company? Are they successful? Were they able to secure investments? To answer these questions, Venture Cup's alumni were surveyed and the results have been published in the Alumni Report 06/07.
One of the findings from the report found that Venture Cup alumni operated across a wide spectrum of industries (see chart below). Over the next few years, this spread should broaden given the industrial spread of teams in the 06/07 competition. Thus publication of an Alumni Report annually should shed more light on the question of whether Venture Cup makes a difference.
Other findings of the report were:
-
A large fraction of alumni companies reporting significant investment. Of the 44 companies surveyed, 3 reported investment of DKK 10 million or more, however, a further 15 received minor investments of above DKK 500.000.
-
Alumni companies also have an impact on society in terms of employment. 33 of 41 operational alumni companies employ full-time staff, a total of about 300 full-time employees - an average of about 9 per company.
-
Venture Cup companies generated revenue in excess of DKK 20 million in 2006, distributed over 28 revenue-generating companies. Of these, about half (13) report to be profitable.
-
In terms of company maturity, 23 of 41 operational companies are more than three years old, and 15 of these have more than three employees.
-
Venture Cup alumni are also much more internationally minded than the average Danish start-ups. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2006 reports a 15% export propensity among Danish entrepreneurs, whereas two thirds (18/28) of revenue-generating Venture Cup companies report international activities.
